What an excellent use of time & energy.

June 29, 2009

Received the following email today from the Brussels Warden:

Demonstration Notice                                   June 29, 2009

According to the Belgian police, a demonstration organized by ARLAC (an organization of Latin American and Caribbean Refugees) to gain U.S. support against the military coup in Honduras is scheduled to take place today, Monday, June 29, 2009, from 5.00 pm through 7.00 pm. The protesters will assemble at the intersection of Avenue des Arts and Rue Guimard.  The demonstration is expected to involve approximately 100 people.  Disruptions to traffic are expected in and around the area.

Spontaneous demonstrations take place in Belgium from time to time in response to world events or local developments.  We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.  American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.  American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.

So. This ARLAC group is protesting for AMERICAN involvement in HONDURAS at a random intersection in BRUSSELS. I’m sure that the people who could actually influence American policy will pay close attention to the demonstration and act accordingly.
